If a stimulus is needed, what can a government do?

There are a very few projects that require such cooperation between various industries, and manufacturers, the effort can be directed by government. Although I believe space exploration could of, and should have been conducted by private industry, sending a man to the moon worked out okay, with the direction of NASA. The problem was that it took longer to reap the commercial benefits, and those directly related to a man on the moon, not the more generic space programs, were never that great.
The purpose, and national pride was a boon,  gave dreamers material. That, as the saying goes, is priceless.Instead of manned expeditions back to the Moon, or Mars there is an equally daunting challenge, with more immediate commercial benefits available that would satisfy the dreams, and push the technology forward.
Let us explore, and colonize for commercial purpose, the floor of the oceans. Off the coast of Florida there is enough methane ice to satisfy energy needs endlessly, there are great mineral deposits, for instance, titanium nodules, to be had. There are antiquities, strange lifeforms, and the prospect of food supplies. The difficulty of exploration, and exploitation require technology leaps, that can keep us at the lead, and sustain our prowess, in science.
The Space Race was a government stimulus. It sort of worked. It was like the Tennesee Valley Authority under FDR. Neither were the worst public project ever. It just seems, all of the space stuff can now be done commercially, and the undersea stuff would be a better place to spend that kind of money. NASA will require some funds, but if we spend billions on something, I think the oceans would give us a greater return, on the investment.

Solution to recover our government!

I am not being modest to say I have figured out  a solution to recovering our form of government. It is a fusion of three seperate ideas, which taken individually cannot work, but when taken together, in a blended fashion, can achieve the desired result.
Government derives much of its' power through the tax code. Picking, and choosing winners, and losers in commerce, with all kinds of market regulations, through the tax code, giving incentive for business to lobby (try to bribe) the congress, and individual legislators, into bending tax codes to the advantage of the entity supporting the lobbyist proffering the bribe. If the tax code was fixed to apply equally to all business, or better yet, to not interfere at all, in the marketplace, there would be no reason, nor temptation to influence for monetary gain. That would all but eliminate much money from the government meant to persuade it.
Congress will resist any attempt to take away that power of the purse that has been amplified by the money changers, in the temple of our government. The established parties will not allow it. The established parties have also co-opted the voting apparatus nationwide, preventing a successful third party. Since a third party will not wrest power from the two major parties, how can we take away the power, by eliminating the money these parties wield?
Term limits, and taking away the powers of incumbancy, will help. If a legislator doesn't have time to build a base of tax manipulating lobbyists, and the investment by a lobbyist is only for short term help, the influences will decrease. As those influences decrease, the party apparatus will decline, creating the ability of a third party to come in, and eleiminate the current tax codes. That will strangle the government money supply, and losen the grip government has, on the throat of the citizens.
The key is to start with term limits, give the lobbyists only term limited access to the legislators to influence them, and also, the heads of commitees (chairmen/women) will revolve, making it much harder to gain good purchase upon the mountian of legislation.
When the party machinery has weakened sufficiently, a third party can be established, to caucus with whichever party is strong enough to form a coalition. The influence of this third party will be disproportionate to its' size due to the need to form a ruling coalition, giving it the power to begin to dismantle the tax code, and free the government of the corruption brought about by people trying to influence legislators for gain.
Last, but not least, such a government will be too mercurial, requiring some discpline that has been removed, aiding the current slip, into the state we have now, unforseen by the founders. The discipline can only be restored by eliminating the 17th ammendment. The senate must be returned to a branch not to be used by popular whim, which can be easily influenced. The senate is the guard to the treasury, which can be used to buy votes, through largess. The treasury must be locked!
I haven't mentioned social lobbys. They are a part of the real discussion government, and society should have. Within the framework of the constitution, is the mechanism to debate what should happen, in the governmet. As long as the Bill Of Rights exists, there will be commity using this mechanism to sustain our nation.

I Told You To Be Scared

How many conspiracy theories are true? I pointed out government could ration health care to seniors to cut liabilities of social security. Since the very government that took money all these years, with the promise to put that money in a lockbox, has instead, spent that money, and has no way to sustain payments it legally is obliged to, the only way to do it is to cut obligations. Rationing health care takes care of this problem. If seniors die off, bingo! Enter universal government health care.
Now, another ominous trend. To fund the Childrens Health Plan, raise taxes on smokers. Everyone knows smokers tend to die younger, and if fewer people smoke because of anti-smoking programs, as there are more, and more children on the Childrens Health Plan, there will be less, and less tobacco sold. What to do? It is politically incorrect to encourage tobbaco consumption, so another source is needed. In comes Cannibus. The media has suppresed stories showing research about how damaging smoking marijuana is to the lungs, and how it will likely lead to cancer, and  various other disease.
Pot is popular among youth, so encouraging consumption by making it legal will create a new generation of smokers who will pay taxes, and die younger. Revenue, and a way to cut obligations to pay retirement benefits. What a concept.

Well I told you so!

It is now 6 months into the new administration, and congressional approval levels have sunk to a new low. In fact, Osama Ben Laden has higher ratings than Nancy Pelosi. The attempts to pass a national gay marriage act has lost what support the Democrats brought with them, and Barrack Obama has turned to John McCain to carry his legislation, since Harry Reid is depressed by his lack of ability to control the Senate, or even his own party. A cool Barrack Obama has lost support from the Move On Left, and the continuing economic downturn now has the country another 6 trillion dollars in debt, deflation has killed the economic growth, and programs are being cut in anticipation of worse to come. NBC has gone bankrupt, and has totally shut down the news division, the New York Times is a tabloid, and the bailout money given to the auto manufacturers has run out.
How much would you bet at least three of these things come to pass? See me in 7 months.

Let Us Be Fair !

I will give the new President every courtesy afforded to George Bush, and the same open minded fair evaluation the Majority of The Press gave him. I will not question his honesty any more than the NBC questioned George Bush. I will be as open minded as the Democrats were when Bush came into office. When he makes his first decision, I will never call into question his motives any more than the Democrats did about George Bush believing there were Weapons of Mass Destruction. Yes, Obama will get all the respect, and loyalty from me George Bush got from the Liberals, let's just see how it fits. As an American, and a Conservative, it is my duty.
Pay back, as they say, is the "Mother of all Attitudes." After eight years of liberal libel against George Bush, I won't use any tactics not used by the liberals. He gets the same chance, from me, George Bush did, from Liberals.

Me Personally

I don't like to get into my own situation, but I am in a weak financial position. I don't mind having consequences to what I did, or didn't do, my actions are my own, but the Demonrat Party has cost me everything I had hoped for.
I blame the current housing crisis on the Party who required lenders to loan to people who were not within range, loans on housing that was artificially valued by appraisals required to not account for blighted neighborhood conditions (red lines) creating a trail of sub prime debt toppling our banks, and taking away the equity I had established as part of my meager life savings. I also had money, which I have been unable to get out of a mortgage fund for over a year, vanish because of these government statutes requiring bad lending praqctices, and kept in place by Barney Franks et. all. I wasn't a Demonrat Voter before, by no means, but now I will not even have an open mind about that Party as long as I live. I am now a absolute anti-democrat. I could vote for a third party, and of course a Republican, but I will try to persuade everyone I come in contact with, to boycott the Party that has cost me things I shall not recover before I die.
At 61 and 1/2, I have only so many years to do what I can to get any Demonrat I can find, out of office, and I will do everything within the law ot do so. From Dog Catcher, to Mayor, I will try to get you out of office. I will support any opposition, volunteer for any cause to get a democrat out of a office. It is my way to pay respects for what they have cost me. I hope it will cost them more, over time.

Strategy

Please, someone get this to any Johnny Mac Campaign operative, I have the strategy to win: The Monday after Barry announces his V.P. choice, hold a big Johnny Mac conference. Do not tell the press what will be said, getting them all there, and annonce this, "The most important appointment a president will ever make is to the Supreme Court, and if circumstance allows me to make such an appointment my first appointment will be Fred Thompson."
What this does is require Barry  respond, in a bidding war he cannot win, or to appear timid in the face of a challenge. Since Fred Thompson is a former Judge, and an ex-senator, his nomination would at once, be feasable, and energize the base more than any Veep could.
Barry might say Hillary, and that would surely energize the rest of the fence sitting conservatives. In fact, any person he would mention would be a greater differentiation between he, and Johnny Mac. Whomever it was, it would create a rift among liberals Thompson would not create among conservatives.
By the way, for his Veep, Johnny Mac needs Kay Bailey Hutchison. A female, conservative southern republican!
Of course, this requires consulting Fred, but knowing his patriotism, he would not refuse the opportunity to serve his nation! Neither would K.B.H.

Again A Closing Arguement

The Junior Senator from Il. has given us a glimpse of his character, showing arogance, and hubrus. His character was on display worldwide, with his words, and sctions overseas.McCain still has a chance to define The Junior Senator, and the closing arguement is by his own admission, his actions, and  utter lack of judgement. He has said, in his own words, he would have opposed the surge, even knowing what we all know today. He didn't visit wounded soldiers, even though the military made exceptions, like allowing his airplane to land on base, and allowing campaign staff to go with him, but not allowing the press.
This all goes back to my cloosing arguement, in his own words. The man who gave him his current religious philosophy, married him, baptised his children, and inspired a book, who he was closely associated with for two decades, another man who he associated with for decades, doing community organizing with, and later getting grants, both state, and federal for millions of dollars, another man who he first went to when he decicded to enter politics, as a candidate, many years ago, Rev. Wright, Father Flager, and Tony Resco, all have one thing in common. When these men came under public scrutiny Obama said of them all. "this is not the man I knew"!
If he can have close association for years with men, and not know their character, he is a self admitted poor judge of men. How can we allow such a poor judge of men negotiate trade, and conduct diplomacy with a world of duplicitous leaders?
His words, and actions define him, McCain need not use more than his own words.

Final Arguement

Okay, there is a closing arguement for John McCain. I hope his campaign reads this, and if you read this, and know someone who is in touch with them, please tell them to read this:
Obama is not Reverand Wright, he is not Father Flager. Of these two, he has said :"this is not the same man I have known for twenty years." Either he knew exactly who they were, or he is lying. I believe he is being truthful. That means he was associated with people closely for twenty years, and never really knew them. Do we want someone to sit down with world leaders, and negotiate with them, who obviously is a poor judge of people.

A Stand For The Future

Autonomous robots fly the sky over Iraq. Soon, autonomous robots will carry guns on the battlefield. In the predictable future, a human finger may be eliminated from the control of the trigger, and the decisions of life, or death will be in the program directives written into the micro chips.
The question is, should war be made cheap enough to not risk the lives of those who fight it? Right now our enemy, Islamo fascist al-Queda uses people programmed like robots to carry out remote bombings. As different as these two methods are, there are parallels.
At first look, I would want to be very sure of the unintended consequences involved. As sure as I am that others have been thinking about this, I feel more discussion should be had in a wider public forum. This might be the kind of forward looking topic for a presidential campaign.

The Most Desperate Post

Obviously, I am not brilliant, yet even I can see the "writing on the wall". We know scientists are suspending disbelief, to join the "global warming" endorsers. I am not the first, I am sure, to figure out the political motive behind the organizers of the movement.
Beyond re-distribution of wealth, and crippling western economies, the reason is to discourage, or eliminate travel. Personal transportation, automobiles, aircrafts, and boats operating on fossil fuel are directly in the cross hairs of "global warming". Transportation is the purest free speech. Ideas, politically difficult ideas, travel with people.
Not to put too paranoid an edge on this, the perfect storm of security concerns due to real threats of terrorism, and anarchy threaten us in ways that restrict freedom, and this only aids those forces who would restrict our freedom by other means. There is no grand conspiracy of cooperation between terrorists, and world government forces. It is just our unhappy coincidence to have to deal with them simultaneously.
With the potential President Elect, regardless of party, being, at the very least, a useful idiot, we must reach up to disabuse any leader of the wrongheaded "global warming".
As I pointed out, in an earlier post, aesthetically a clean planet is desirable to every point of view, yet the current danger from zealots on the "global warming" side could destroy our liberty. We cannot let this be, we must educate everyone. Each person reading this post should find one other person, use reason, and do personal research, to persuade at least one other person, who will do the same. Some of the strongest believers on the other side, as converts, will persuade many of their peers.
The very nature of what is happening because of the "global warming" scam will attract converts to reason and draw them to reality. They will have enthusiasm, and purpose. Together, we can save freedom. We must.

Truth

Today Rush restated his basic truth "white males are the secret to winning elections." To put an exclamation mark on that, both Billary, and Obama put out press releases stating support of the second ammendment. This speaks for itself. This is pandering to the white male voters who are stupid enough to believe Democrats will defend the right to bare arms. Anyone who thinks white male voters will buy that is really  shooting for the low common denominator. Oh, that's right, they are shooting for the union voters.
Anyone foolish enough to count on one of those two to protect their second ammendment rights deserves to relinquish all fire arms. That kind of individual gives the rest of us a bad name. If you want gun rights, you need to vote, both early, and often.

Now Rush?

No conservative left but Romney? That is what the campaign for 2008 looks like. Romney needs a steady conservative running mate to solidify his newly minted conservative bonification. To insure doubters, who look at his record of liberal statements while seeking office in his blue state, he has to show a steady conservative anchor on his team. Who could that be?
I suspect that Rush will act as a team member for the rest of the "silly season" of primaries. Unfortunately, my dog in the fight, Thompson, just hasn't caught on. He may be the viable anchor for Mitt, but I am afraid he will not seek that august co-staring role as the Veep. If he does, he has already talked about his affection for McCain.
Rush has to come out of the closet now. If not the real Vice Presidential Candidate, and of course, he obviously couldn't take the drop in pay, he needs to be the virtual running mate for Mitt. He has three hours, five days a week to do that, and to stay relevant in the process.

A Tax Stimulate

Drop the tax on diesel fuel. It is that simple. It would target business. It would target small business, in particular truckers. The poorest would benefit from the lower prices of commodities, like food, and clothing. Transportation costs dropping would ripple throughout the economy. I am not sure how much revenue the fed would have to give up, but the greater economic activity would offset the drop, and then some.
Why not gasoline? No need. Diesel accounts for a large fraction of transportation, gasoline doesn't. Trains, and trucks use diesel, only light delivery trucks use gasoline, and you could easily rebate fuel tax at 100% to business. Airlines would also get a great stimulation by the 100% rebate on fuel.
If anything would stand in the way of this plan, it is the probability of success. You see, if it worked, and I am sure it would, there would be pressure to drop all federal taxes on fuel, all fuel. People would figure out dropping the tax on gasoline would allow more travel, another boost to the economy that would offset any loss of revenue, and so on, and so on...
Remember, every time taxes are decreased, revenues rise....every time it has been tried....Kennedy, Reagan, Bush, before that, how many Presidents were there that had an income tax? That is right, only a few, and before Kennedy, fewer still that had social security. Only Truman, and Eisenhower had social security, remember Franklin Roosevelt initiated Social Security. Woodrow Wilson initiated income tax. All of the big tax initiatives have came from Democrats, see the pattern? Johnson with the great society, etc..
Democrats, and some errant Republicans raise taxes, and the economy suffers. Tax relief is the only way to help the economy. I think diesel is the best place to start.
Oh yeah, Kennedy, well consensus is he would be a Republican today......
