Autonomous robots fly the sky over Iraq. Soon, autonomous robots will carry guns on the battlefield. In the predictable future, a human finger may be eliminated from the control of the trigger, and the decisions of life, or death will be in the program directives written into the micro chips.
The question is, should war be made cheap enough to not risk the lives of those who fight it? Right now our enemy, Islamo fascist al-Queda uses people programmed like robots to carry out remote bombings. As different as these two methods are, there are parallels.
At first look, I would want to be very sure of the unintended consequences involved. As sure as I am that others have been thinking about this, I feel more discussion should be had in a wider public forum. This might be the kind of forward looking topic for a presidential campaign.
